Rob DuffinEngineer/Studio Manager Email Rob Duffin
Rob Duffin began recording music when he was 15 years old by pressing the record button on his mom's tape deck. He quickly reached the limits of the tape deck and has since then worked his way through various home Pro Tools rigs to record his own music in addition to several of his friends' bands. Since 2006 he has been working out of Annex Recording in Salt Lake City as a full-time engineer and studio manager. Projects that he has engineered range in genres from the instrumental melodies of Paul Cardall to the fierce vocals of Aaron Gillespie in his side-band The Almost. When you call Annex Recording you'll most likely talk to Rob. Whether you're a seasoned studio musician or looking to book your first studio experience, Rob will make sure you're taken care of!
Giles ReavesEngineer/Producer Email Giles Reaves
Giles Reaves leads the consummate musical life as recording engineer, studio musician, and recording artist. Giles moved to Nashville and began his recording career in 1982 where he met studio engineer Marshall Morgan and producer Jim Ed Norman working as a studio assistant for the following two years. He was immediately hooked and has been in the studio ever since. In 1984, Giles accepted full time assistant engineering position at Castle Recording under the guidance of industry-powerhouse Chuck Ainlay (Mark Knopfler, George Strait). It was during this time that Giles learned to command the SSL studio computer and 3M 32 track digital system (only the 2nd SSL & 3M machines in Nashville at that time). Giles advanced in the recording arts as well as develop deep knowledge and understanding of synthesizers, including the first Yamaha DX1 in the US, as well as becoming intimately familiar with the Fairlight CMI IIcx. Shortly after working on Edgar Meyer’s first solo recording, Giles was approached by MCA Nashville president and producer Tony Brown to create new original work for the new Master Series recording division. After leaving Castle Recording in 1986 and signing as an artist to MCA, Giles also signed to Warner/Chappel publishing for what became more than a three year stint as a songwriter. At that time Giles began to work more and more as first engineer, working on such diverse projects as Dessau (Industrial, co-produced), Bedlam (pop rock, cuts in the groundbreaking film Reservoir Dogs), and Lisa Germano (alternative). Giles went on to work with such diverse acts as Al Kooper, Chantal Kreviazuk, Chet Atkins, Megadeth, Patty Griffin, Rubyhorse, Nicole Nordman, John Cowan, Faith Hill, Abra Moore, The Alternate Routes, and the Derek Trucks Band. Many of these projects also feature Giles as a drummer and/or keyboardist, a rare combination. Giles continues to engineer, produce and often play instruments on projects in California, Nashville, Portland, OR and Salt Lake City, UT through "http://www.myspace.com/annexrecording" and Selig Productions. Most recently, Giles co-founded, performed and recorded with The Fulton Reaves Project, a progressive down-tempo electronic trio available at "http://www.myspace.com/ thefultonreavesproject"
Aaron DominguezEngineer/Producer Email Aaron Dominguez
Aaron Dominguez is a new comer to Annex Recording but not a new comer to the industry. He started recording at an early age when he found punk rock and tried to emulate his favorite artists on a tape recorder. After that, things progressed to him playing piano, and also drums and percussion from age 11. After achieving small successes in the business world, Aaron's love for music was too big to record as a hobby. After attending the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Arizona, where he learned large format analog consoles as well as the newer digital workstations and software, he landed back home in Salt Lake City, Utah and made friends with Annex. After completing an internship with Giles Reaves and Rob Duffin, Aaron stayed on as an engineer and is working hard with Annex to gain more clients and experience and build on an exciting start to a career in the music and audio industry. In the short time with Annex, Aaron not only assists Rob and Giles on many projects but has definitely started to work on many projects on his own. He is currently co-producing and engineering a hop/hop album as well as working with local rock talent and many others in between. Aaron enjoys meeting new people and hearing new music of ANY genre. You will most likely see him at local shows at ALL of the local venues in UT. Make sure to shake hands and make friends and talk music and recording. Aaron is fun to work with in the studio and likes to have a good time while not sacrificing the quality of the work.
